Inspired by my year studying abroad in Taiwan, ‘This is not what I wanted’ reflects the frustration of not being able to communicate in a foreign language.

The story follows a girl protagonist who travels to an unfamiliar city where the primary language spoken is ‘quack’. Despite her efforts, she is unable to emulate the language and finds herself in many awkward situations, but thanks to her mistakes she makes an unexpected multilingual friend.
